Others should join this group to help convince the Democrats of the importance of health care reform and implementing HR676.

I attend Lower East Side Meetups when I can, but there was no LES location, and I liked the West Village group and location very much.

This month's MeetUp at Big City was particularly enjoyable and gratifying for me, especially since I was able to help with the meetup itself, assisting in signing people in, giving out nametags, and spur-of the moment requests from the Host. Lewis did a great job making sure everyone was comfortable, relaxed, and getting across all the information in the time period needed, at the same time creating a lively spirited atmosphere of expectancy for Freddie Ferrer's presentation. Of course, Howard Dean's great achievements to date had to be cheered, and this happily done with great vigor. Freddie talked about the Drum Major Institute, and answered some tough questions on how he would address problematic issues; I felt that the attendees got a good overview and intro to who this candidate is, and what he stands for. The purpose of introducing one of our Mayoral candidates was fulfilled by this meetup, and many people stayed after, exchanging cards, discussing what we had just heard, and enthusiastically planning to come to the March Meetup! Again, I believe that this was a great meetup, one that inspired many people, including several "new" attendees that I brought along. I'm confident that this trend will continue -- the energy keeps on growing! :-D

It seems as though the numbers are dwindling--I hope it is just because of the summer and not a permanent situation. I think the organizers do a good job. Can we get a National monthly update as to what laws have been passed during the month, (if any) what is currently on the table and what the City counsel has passed which would affect New Yorkers. I would also like to hear about any updates regarding the voting machines for NYC

Seems like a nice bunch of folks; I live in Hell's Kitchen and will probably start attending Meetups down there, but this was a good group.

  •  All the individuals seemed likeable and motivated. I look forward to the next meetup.

  •  I like the multiple DFNYC groups. I live in Queens and am happy that the orginization is already flexible and large enough to be near my home and about my parochial issues while connecting me to the city at large. This is what is great about DFNYC.

    Andrew on Feb 3, 2005.

  •  Unfortunately I had to leave early, so I didn't get to really know the group itself...

    Jessame on Feb 3, 2005.

  •  Nothing wrong with people opining on pets and the anti-smoking law, diversity of passions is a good thing, though I hope and expect to meet ever more people interested in tackling the bread and butter issues, "structural" matters, to use Speaker Miller's word, without which we cannot hope to reach out to the large mass of people out there that we still must touch. Great group!

  •  Great.

  •  I'm glad to be a part of this movement. Perhaps we can change the Democratic party and move it slightly to the left (or a lot to the left).

  •  The leaders were great and to be saluted for their committment to activism and involvement. And other members appeared informed and active as well.

  •  I was, of course, glad to see a group of active, passionate people that are united behind specific worthwhile causes. On the other hand, at times I felt as if my own opinions might have shocked the others more than they should. For example, I don't believe that letters to media people fall on open ears (an opinion expressed that evening) and I don't believe Democrats have been aggressive enough in attacking their opponents the Republicans (something that we Democrats tend to mistake for taking the "moral highroad"). Hope we can continue to make progress.

Gregg Wager on Dec 2, 2004.

  •  Attendance varies from month to month which leads me to believe that, in order to grow the "movement", we need to create specific "action" groups in which individuals can become personally involved. During the get togethers, before and after last night's meeting, I met several people who would like to participate in a "media action" group and who indicated their interest in attending the WNYC Public Comment meeting (Wednesday night Dec. 8th, 7:00 pm at NY Society for Ethical Culture, 2 West 64th at CPW). This meeting will allow the public to challenge NPR Radio to meet new standards of depth of coverage of the individuals and events of the day which are so drastically affecting our lives and the decisions we must make.

  •  This was my first time at this Meetup. It seemed like there was a core group of people who had been in it since early Dean, along with a bunch of newcomers. I felt a lot of commitment from like-minded people.

  •  This Meetup Group was very large. I am aware that the next meetings will be split into five locations .. this will ultimately change the dynamic of the groups .. hard to say at this point .. I am willing to work, and I try to remain positive, however, the Republican machine is extremely intolerant and very well funded .. we have TRUTH and honestly .. we must develop tact to the max .. and about $ .. we can't match them !! It means we will HAVE to be Very Smart and Tactful.
