Sick of how the media continues to distort the reality of the occupation of Iraq?

Well, then you don't want to miss this Wednesday's power-packed Oakland DFA Meetup...

Please join us April 9 as we welcome author and media analyst Norman Solomon, watch excerpts from "War Made Easy," the powerful film adapted from Solomon's book and narrated by Sean Penn, and meet candidates running for the Alameda County Democratic Party Central Committee.

Norman Solomon will be discussing "War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death" with us as well as "Made Love, Got War," his most recent book. Norman will also take questions about the current conduct of the media around the war in Iraq and what may happen in this historic election year.

But that's not all!

We'll also be:

+ Discussing Iran and how Bush's drumbeat to war may impact the presidential election

+ Taking direct action on "Net Neutrality" with a letter-writing activity (likely) targeting Senator Dianne Feinstein

+ Announcing the endorsements (and non-endorsements) that East Bay for Democracy made in March for President, State Senate, Assembly and DCCC.

+ Meeting candidates running for the Alameda County Democratic Party Central Committee (following the Meetup, East Bay for Democracy members will be conducting an additional endorsement vote).

+ Hearing about Prop 98 and Prop 99, coming up on California's June primary ballot.

Come at 6:30 for "Dinner & the Daily Show," be there at 7 to kick-off the meetup, then join us after the meetup as we share a few beers down the street from the Rockridge Library.

"War Made Easy reaches into the Orwellian memory hole to expose a 50-year pattern of government deception and media spin that has dragged the United States into one war after another from Vietnam to Iraq. Narrated by actor and activist Sean Penn, the film exhumes remarkable archival footage of official distortion and exaggeration from LBJ to George W. Bush, revealing in stunning detail how the American news media have uncritically disseminated the pro-war messages of successive presidential administrations."

Ugh, stop bugging me about this Meetup. I am STILL going to be in Sacramento, whether or not I have to reply to DFA or EB4D.
