“ I was pleased and surprised to see so many at our first UES Meetup in some time. Also surprised to see so many first timers. It seems DFNYC is really cooking. Lewis and his co-host were very out there, very effectively making points and sharing views alternately from opposite sides of the room. I thought, however, the attempt to get the group to come up with ideas and solutions for how the Democratic Party can present its programs in the future was really a lot more than a group of that size can ever achieve. It was good to get folks thinking, but I nearly lost consciousness trying to concentrate on all the thoughts and positions people were pulling out of their hats. I'm afraid we may have turned off some of the newbies. What I think people at meetups want is inspiration (thank you Mark), information about coming events (great job Lewis and handouts), and most importantly HOW THEY CAN GET INVOLVED and do something. I think the brainstorming about the grand strategy for the Dems muddied that last point up a bit. A better approach, I think, would be to give the group a subject to think about and respond to on the website (or by mail). I also want to apologize to Lewis for having jumped on that champion of the West Side stadium. I thought he was just a shill for the project and hadn't realized he was invited to share his opinion.
