SF for Democracy: Saving rent control in California/Bayview redevelopment
(4 ratings)
Meeting Description
Organized by
- Susan Pfeifer, Tim Hsu, and Tom Brown
Details
March: Did you know that Proposition 98, on the June 2008 ballot, would end rent control in California under the guise of "eminent domain reform"? Prop 98 also has the potential to end infrastructure projects and curtail environmental protections; in fact, it could even effectively destroy all local planning of land use! Join our special guest Dean Preston, the founder of Tenants Together, California's only statewide organization for renters' rights, and find out what you can do to fight yet another deceptive right-wing proposition.
Also: The June 2008 ballot in San Francisco may contain two competing ballot measures governing the redevelopment of the Bayview, one that would authorize the Lennar Corporation's redevelopment plan, and another that would require 50% of all housing built in the redevelopment to be affordable. Come join our panel discussion that will put the issue in context and look at what's right for the Bayview and for the city as a whole.
