This month's Meetup offers a couple of hot topics to usher in the summer.
First, now that the California Supreme Court has allowed both Proposition 8 and the 18,000 same-sex marriages to stand, what should happen next? Current plans call for pushing for a ballot box repeal of Proposition 8 in 2010 or however long it takes. Electorally protecting Justice Carlos Moreno, the only justice who voted to overturn Proposition 8 would also be good. Ready to plug in for the fight for marriage equality? Lilia Tamm, the LGBT Northern California organizer for The Courage Campaign, will offer ways that you can help.
At this writing, details of the Obama health care plan have not been released. But that hasn't stopped certain health insurance companies and right-wing interest groups from launching their disinformation campaigns. Yet America's health care system still sucks royally and maintaining the status quo is not an option. Offering their ideas on the probable strengths and shortcomings of the Obama plan are SF4D's Susan Pfeifer, Jan Rodolfo, R.N. with the California Nurses Association, and community organizer Linda Leu of Health Access California.
We'll also try to have some table talk time so you can meet your fellow attendees.
Summer may have arrived, but pushing for change is a year-round activity.
