"I'm fairly active myself, so I'm biased. what comes off best is that there seem to be many different people leading many different activities. I hope visitors get a good sense of the activism."

Jean Tokarek (Feb 6, 2006)

"It is evident to me now that this group is not for discussion or philosophical debate, but for action. Therefore, the name, I think, is wrong. If you are "San Francisco Democracy for America," then you will actively seek people of differing opinions and outlooks to attend. Democracy REQUIRES variety. What you ought to be called is "San Francisco Progressive Action for America" or something like that. See, I haven't heard any talk at all about "How can we get all viewpoints aired before this election?" (that is, how can we ensure that our democracy is vigorous, healthy, representing all viewpoints). Rather, your stance is "How can we ensure that OUR viewpoints prevail over others'?" So again, it's not really democracy you seek to engender, but progressive action by using the democratic system that we (sort of) have."

Greg (Dec 9, 2005)

"Very warm and welcoming people."

Arlene (Dec 8, 2005)

"I've only been to one meeting in a long time, so I don't really have an opinion. It did seem like more people went when it was at the Plough & Stars, altho' that room was noisy and dark. Maybe others don't like a downtown location either....I don't know!"

Debbie Richards (Nov 5, 2005)

"The Meetup group was very organized which allowed for lots of discussion and expression of opinions and actions."

Nancy Rosenthal (Nov 3, 2005)

"enthusiastic and organized. "

bethello (Oct 6, 2005)

"I am glad the meetings continue to draw in new staff. However, starting to feel like a few people have way too much control over everything. I think John B. is not the best host. His body language towards some speakers (e.g. ACLU guest) suggests some disrespect. Also he seemed either a little bit looped or just disorganized. "

Mary Prendiville (Jul 7, 2005)

"I appreciated leaderships' openess to new ideas."

Marvl (Jun 2, 2005)

"There were at least three people at our table (2 new, 1 old) who were complaining that it seemed that we were too scattered as an organization; had too met smaller, pet issues; and that we lacked focus. We attempted to discuss our strategic plan as well as who SF4D functions as a clearing house for info on progressive causes, but I don't think they were buying it. We may need to make our strategic goal part of welcome statement before each meetup and try to frame how the night's program fits into that plan, so new people see that there is a "...method to our madness...""

Leon Parker & Gloria Wu (Jun 2, 2005)

"As I previously mentioned, I feel that the meetings have been improving. There is an interesting mix of discussion and guest speakers. Also, I feel that Will has been doing an exceptional job of keeping the group together and providing interesting discussions issues. Instead of losing members, we have a number of new members coming to the meeting. "

Richard Lopez (Mar 6, 2005)
