Hi everyone,

First of all, I hope you do not mind that I am contacting you via your meet up group. I am looking for very specific volunteers, who want to volunteer in Denver international development and hunger relief, and I found your group. I thought I would make a volunteer opportunity known to you, and if any of you are interested, please let me know.

My name is Brooke Barron and I’m an intern with Friends of the World Food Program. We are a nonprofit, based in Washington D.C. that supports the work of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). In 2009, WFP hopes to provide life-saving assistance to nearly 100 million people in about 80 countries. Friends of WFP works to build support for WFP in the U.S. We do this through fundraising, advocacy and awareness raising about the issue of global hunger and WFP.

A year ago, the Outreach Department launched a grassroots volunteer program: the WFP Committee program. Our goal is to find local volunteers, with an interest in humanitarian affairs, who want to serve as volunteer leaders in their community on the issue of global hunger. This is why I am reaching out to all of you, as we are currently trying to recruit volunteers in the Denver metro area! I encourage you to check our website for more about who we are and what we do (www.friendsofwfp.org) and in particular please look at our information on becoming a WFP Committee Leader. In September we have a two-month training session starting. We also have open conference calls scheduled for next week, so you can learn more about this opportunity. If any of you might be interested in getting involved with the WFP Committee program, please let me know.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message. Best of luck in all your future volunteering endeavors! I hope some of you might be in touch with me. I can be reached at outreach@friendsofwfp.org or 202.530.1694.

Best,

Brooke Barron
