You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!
Miniprotesting is a simple concept but is capable of having a far-reaching impact if everyone finds out about it and uses the idea. In a nutshell, three groups of four are spread out on three consecutive corners in a "protest string." The focal point of each group is a main 30" by 40" sign held with hand holds at waist level. These three signs can be identical such as "Tigard Dems Urge: Get Wise To Bush/GOP Lies" with the three other signs held overhead complementing that concept. Take that notion one step farther and do a running message such as:
1st main sign: Beaverton Dems Urge: Support the TRUTH
2nd main sign: Saddam and Osama were Bitter Enemies
3rd main sign: Bush's Noble Cause: Iraq Oil Production Sharing Agreement
And I've got zillions of other possible inscriptions. But I don't mind if you choose your own, as long as you stay away from profanity and outright hate-speech.
Miniprotesting is not about the message, it's about the presentation and a great way to: 1) unify all the voices of change, 2) make the best use of our numbers, and 3) take protesting beyond a mere show of support; to make it a viable tool for informing people of the sad, aggravating, and hidden truths that have the power to make people FORMER Republicans.
Many of you have protested before. Now with miniprotesting you break down the barriers of having to travel far, gather enough people, and plan well in advance. The protests I have set up on our calendar are merely suggestions; if you want to do your own please do AND LET ME KNOW SO I'LL PUT IT ON MY CALENDAR. All that I ask is that you adopt the very specific look noted above, including the Georgia bold font for your organization's name, and Arial bold for all remaining inscriptions. Use as much of the width of paper as you can and 1.5 spacing for best effect. Print your inscriptions out and take them to Kinko's where you can enlarge them to 400%. Thumb tack those to your 30" by 40" 1/4" thick white poster board and put a little clear tape over then to insure that they stay in place. Then grab a few of your usual signs and hit the streets. Again, please let me know so I can post your miniprotest and fill your ranks. Code Pink, MoveOn.org, Progressive Democrats of America, Veterans for Peace; everybody can do this and I can help promote all of you on our calendar.
The media doesn't show the actual news anymore, it's all about filtering out what goes against their agenda. Recently on Oct. 27th there were 11 major protests in linked events that took months to plan. Media acknowledgment was scarce and brief.
Miniprotesting attacks this goal from the exact opposite direction. Rather than have 11 major protests, why not have 100,000 minor ones? The Miniprotesting concept is tailor made for small groups, many of whom are already protesting in some way. So please join this meetup group, and tell me WHERE you'd like to protest and WHAT you'd like to say.
